도쿄 아트북페어에 다녀왔습니다. 콜링북스의 출판 레이블 'tabi press'로 참가하게 되면서 저도 함께하기로 했습니다. tabi press에서 처음 펴낸 두 권의 책 《LOKAL STORY BOOK》, 《tabi press vol.0 : MAIL MAGAZINE》의 일러스트레이션 작업을 맡았고, 그 외에도 함께 작업한 Zine과 티셔츠, 그리고 저의 독립출판물 《EARLY BIRD》, 일본어를 추가하여 한정판으로 만든 《Mandarine zine》과 원화 2점도 함께 선보였습니다.
아쉽게도 저는 일본어를 못하지만, 콜링북스 & tabi press의 지나 님은 일본어가 능숙하셔서 각자 옷에 'Japanese OK'와 '한국인이고 일본어는 잘 못합니다'라는 문구를 붙이고 방문객들과 대화를 이어 나갔습니다. 2, 3일 차쯤 되었을 때는 저도 간단한 계산 정도는 할 수 있게 되었답니다.
첫 해외 아트북페어 참가에 소중한 친구들도 함께해 주었습니다. K-팝 작사가 림고, 서비스 기획자 루시, 디자이너 다람쥐까지. 아침마다 북페어로 떠나는 저희 둘을 즐겁게 응원해 주어 큰 힘이 되었고, 각자 하루씩 테이블에 들러 자리도 함께 지켜 주었고요.
도쿄 아트북페어는 정말 규모가 커서 그 크기에 먼저 압도되었습니다. 전 세계에서 모인 창작자들의 개성 넘치는 책들로 가득한 공간은 엄청났고, 구경하는 것만으로도 시간이 훌쩍 지나갔습니다. 북페어가 열린 도쿄현대미술관은 넓은 공원 안에 자리하고 있어, 날씨는 쌀쌀했지만 나무들 사이를 걷는 듯한 기분이 들어 마음까지 탁 트이는 느낌이었습니다.
2024년 콜링북스에서 열렸던 《귤로부터》 전시에 일러스트레이터로 참여하여 원화 3점을 그렸는데, 그 중 2점을 이번 도쿄 아트북페어에 가져갔습니다. 페어 2일 차에는 강아지와 고양이가 귤밭에서 있는 장면을 담은 원화를 구매하고 싶다는 분이 찾아오셨고, 덕분에 원화가 첫 판매되는 기쁜 순간도 경험할 수 있었습니다.
2026년 4월에는 도쿄에서 《LOKAL STORY BOOK》 출판 기념 전시도 열립니다. Club D by D&DESIGN에서 2026년 4월 2일부터 5일까지 진행되니, 도쿄에 계신 분들은 들러 주세요!

I attended the Tokyo Art Book Fair as part of tabi press, the publishing label of Calling Books. I contributed illustrations to their first two publications — LOKAL STORY BOOK and tabi press vol.0 : MAIL MAGAZINE — and also brought my own independent publication EARLY BIRD, a limited-edition Mandarine Zine with Japanese text added, two original paintings, and collaborative zines and T-shirts.
Though I don't speak Japanese, Jina from Calling Books & tabi press is fluent, so we wore tags reading "Japanese OK" and "I'm Korean and don't speak much Japanese" to keep conversations going with visitors. By day two or three, I could at least handle simple transactions on my own.
Dear friends joined us for this first overseas art book fair — Rimgo the K-pop lyricist, service designer Lucy, and designer Daramjwi. They cheered us on each morning as we headed to the fair, and each took a turn at the table to keep us company.
The scale of the Tokyo Art Book Fair was overwhelming — a vast space filled with distinctive books from creators around the world, where hours passed just browsing. The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, set within a wide park, made for a refreshing walk between sessions despite the cool weather.
I also brought two of the three original paintings I made for the Issu de la Mandarine exhibition at Calling Books in 2024. On day two, someone came by wanting to purchase the painting of a dog and cat in a tangerine orchard — my first-ever original painting sale.
In April 2026, an exhibition celebrating the LOKAL STORY BOOK publication opens in Tokyo at Club D by D&DESIGN (April 2–5, 2026). Please stop by if you're in town!
